One in five Australians aged over 45 suffer from chronic pain. It is a condition that can also affect children and young adults. Chronic Pain is pain that is longer than 3 months duration. Chronic pain affects many aspects of an individual’s life.  It can cause depression and anxiety, decrease one’s ability to work, maintain their home, and self care. It can also impact one's relationships.  It can be overwhelming. 

Dr Elaine Shek has over twenty-five years experience. She obtained her medical degree in 1996 from the University of Queensland. She worked in general practice and in the hospital setting for two decades. She developed a deep passion for looking after patients with chronic pain. She underwent further training to become a pain specialist. In her chronic pain speciality, she has trained extensively at the Princess Alexandra Pain Unit, QPain, and at Migraine Specialist. She is a fellow of two specialist colleges (Fellowships of General Practice and Faculty of Pain Medicine Australian New Zealand College of Anaesthetists). 

Dr Shek approaches the treatment of chronic pain in a holistic manner, utilising pharmacology, psychological therapies and interventions such as radiofrequency neurotomies.  

Her special interests are back pain, neck pain, headaches, chronic pelvic pain, knee pain, hip pain and shoulder pain.
